On Yahoo News, this Associated Press story is headlined:
U.S. Insists on Keeping Control of Web
But who's really doing the insisting here? Given that America has control of the Internet because we created it in the first place, the following headline would be more appropriate:
Other Countries Insist on Taking Control of Web
FOLLOW-UP
Meryl Yourish and Jay Tea don't think having the U.N. run the Internet is such a good idea.

Well put. You are so right.

Just another case of the non-producers laying claim to the products of innovators. They “deserve” control…because they don’t have it.
One can only imagine the boring world of a UN controlled internet...page after page of smiling peasants -- maybe they could even toss in a radiant image of Mao looking down from the clouds.

From the crowd that continually chants the virtues of "diversity" one can only expect bland conformity.

Given all of the other UN successes, it seems clear it should stay out of their hands. The web has flourished under US control. How would they make it any better?

Good question, Gindy, and another might be, "How are other nations suffering from U.S. control of the Internet?"

From what I can tell, their complaints are about what the U.S. might do (i.e., we wake up one morning and decide we don't like Burundi, so we wipe out all of its domain names.), rather than anything it's actually done.
