First Mel, now Kramer. To all the other actors out there whose work I've enjoyed, can you please not ruin everything with a crazy hate-speech rant?

Kramer's transgression doesn't rise to the level of "hate speech."

Inflating this kind of thing only comforts real racists, whose hatred manifests primarily in actions rather than words.

He was performing at a comedy club, where racial epithets, along with profanity, obscenity and most other forms of verbal offense are to be tolerated.

It is possible that his comments were not delivered from the character he was playing on stage and if that's the case, then perhaps it was offensive. But I'd reserve judgment until I've seen and heard the performance itself.

Mel's another story. His rant was offensive precisely because it could not have been construed as an act, but more likely reflected his actual beliefs.

Yes, as long as it's funny. This wasn't.

You can see a video of the actual incident on YouTube.

There's a good discussion starting here on whether someone who acts like Richards did is a "real" racist. My view: He's not a KKK-style kill-the-blacks racist, but his comments were racist, inappropriate, and disturbing.
