Via Fark, the Associated Press reports:
A man tried to use a stun gun to fend off a carjacker and ended up being shot five times.

...While trying to reach for his money, the man also pulled out his stun gun and shocked the carjacker. But the carjacker reacted by shooting the man at least five times, [Atlanta police Sgt. Lisa] Keyes said.

...Keyes stressed the importance of simply giving up the vehicle when confronted by a carjacker.
Bzzt, wrong. The correct answer was: "Quit messing around with Tasers and get a real gun."

I think I probably couldn`t get a gun here, but are Tasers legal?

Tokyo Tom: It would seem that, in the U.S. at least, nothing that might actually help you successfully defend yourself is legal. I know this to be the case in Chicago. Only the PoPo and the gang bangers can carry a weapon.

I can guess how you feel, but there certainly are alot of guns in private hands, right?

I am all for self-defense, against both the criminals and the state. I'm sick of the drug war, all of the tasings, SWAT mistakes and crime (of course). Glad I'm in a safer place.

There are a lot of guns in private hands, but law-abiding people in areas where they are banned (my father, for example) don't have them at home. My father's reside, if you will, at the home of a friend who lives in an area where they are not banned. They'll go target shooting at a gun club near the friend's home, but those guns are staying where it's legal to possess them. This is clear after a man in the suburb immediately adjacent to my father's was very nearly prosecuted after shooting an intruder who had broken in to his home twice: once while the family was on vacation, and again a few days after they returned home. They realized it was the same burglar when the asshat drove up their driveway in the BMW that had been stolen in the 1st break-in.
